Filmmaker Karan Johar is often attacked online, regardless of what he does or says, be it for his movies or his talk show, Koffee with Karan. But actor Ranveer Singh said that the filmmaker has contributed a lot to Indian cinema, and is someone who has never ‘imposed’ himself on anybody else. Alia Bhatt, on the other hand, said that one cannot compare Karan to anyone else, as “Karan is Karan”. Ranveer and Alia recently worked with KJo in the upcoming family drama, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Alia, Ranveer and Karan participated in India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN’s) Back to School series to promote the film recently. At the event, Ranveer wondered if Karan is more like Miss Braganza (Archana Puran Singh) from the film Kuch Kuch Hota hai or Narayan Shankar (Amitabh Bachchan) from Mohabbatein. But Alia told him, he is neither. “Karan is Karan. You have to create a new character for him,” she said.
On this, Ranveer added, “Karan is no school principal. Karan is a student of life, art and creativity. He is one man who wears his stature very lightly. He is the most eminent and prominent figures in the history of Indian entertainment. His contribution cannot be emphasised enough and he is still going on. In fact, he is just getting started.”
Ranveer also shared that Karan is a person who treats everyone equally and never throws his weight around. “He is one of the most remarkable individuals that I have had the good fortune of knowing and collaborating with. He has a deep understanding of human beings and interpersonal relationships,” the actor said.
Ranveer, who seemed to be in awe of KJo, also complimented him for exhibiting “feminine and masculine” qualities at the same time. He looked at the film director and said, “Sometimes, I am bewildered at how can you be so masculine and so feminine at the same time. It’s like when he is talking to me, he is talking like a bro. And then at times both of us will become aunties also.”
The Gully Boy star feels Karan is intelligent and silly in equal measure. “Karan can be deadly serious and also life-rooted at the same time. He is deeply intellectual yet silly and foolish at times when he is in a fun mood, which is why I consider him to be a kaleidoscopic and panoramic personality,” Ranveer concluded.
