What happened aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073 is an incredible story of courage, presence of mind and determination.
Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian pilot from Mumbai, was seriously injured after being attacked by his co-pilot during the flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
Even while badly wounded, Captain Machchhar continued fighting for the lives of everyone onboard. Realizing the aircraft and passengers were in grave danger, he managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to intervene and overpower the attacker.
The aircraft was later safely diverted and landed in Saudi Arabia by relief pilots.
Captain Machchhar’s courage helped save more than 170 lives. 🙏
At a moment when his own life was in danger, his thoughts were still with his passengers.
