India’s women’s cricket team delivered a dominant performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the women’s T20 final on September 22.
Batting first, India posted an imposing 216 for 3. Smriti Mandhana led the way with 79 runs, while Shafali Verma added 48. The pair put together a strong 99-run opening partnership, giving India early control of the match. Richa Ghosh then provided a powerful finish with an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls.
Mandhana also reached a major milestone during the innings, becoming the first woman to score 11,000 runs in international cricket.
Sri Lanka struggled to respond to India’s huge total and were bowled out for just 69 runs in under 16 overs. India’s bowlers kept constant pressure on the Sri Lankan batting lineup, with Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma among the key contributors.
The victory gave India its first gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games and continued the team’s strong record in women’s T20 cricket at the Games. The official Asian Games schedule had set the women’s final for September 22 in Aichi-Nagoya.
